Hi Chalk

Now in free pilot

The SEND-first AI tutor that teaches out loud.

Chalk explains GCSE topics out loud, draws them on the board and asks your child questions to check their understanding.

When they get stuck, Chalk gives them hints and guides them step by step so they can work out the answer for themselves, rather than simply giving it to them.

Built for SEND learners from the start, not added on later.

  1. Explains
  2. Draws
  3. Asks
  4. Guides

This is a real Chalk lesson. Chalk explains, draws and asks questions as it teaches. When the learner gets stuck or asks for the answer, Chalk guides them through it instead of simply revealing it.

The live lesson talks, listens and draws as it goes.

How it teaches

Built to research, explain and guide.

What Chalk does in every lesson.

  • 01

    It researches

Looks every topic up on a short, fixed list of approved education sites.

    See the approved sources

    Fetching the list…

This list comes directly from the software that controls which websites Chalk is allowed to use.

  • 02

    It explains and draws

Talks the idea through out loud and sketches it on the board as it goes.

  • 03

    It guides

Hints and guiding questions instead of answers, even when asked outright. Built into the software.

For parents

Built for children. Controlled by parents.

What the software does, and what it will not do.

  • Parents hold the account

You create and manage the account, and your child has a learning profile underneath it. Under-13s never need one of their own.

  • No card. No adverts.

Nothing to pay while the pilot runs and no card to enter. No adverts and no upsells inside a lesson.

  • See what they have learned

Past Lessons shows what Chalk taught, how your child answered and which educational sources it read.

  • Approved sources only

Chalk can only reach a fixed list of approved educational sites. It cannot browse social media, buy anything or open accounts.

  • Safeguarding in the lesson

If your child says something that raises a concern, Chalk stops the lesson, shows Childline's details and flags it for you.

  • Your data stays yours

Lessons are stored so you can look back at them. They are never sold or used to train AI models, and Settings can export or delete everything.

Why we built Chalk

One-to-one teaching can make a real difference.

But it isn’t equally available to every learner.

  • 20.8%

of pupils in England have special educational needs

  • 538,500

children with an Education, Health and Care Plan

  • 1.3 million

    more receiving SEN support

A teacher with thirty children cannot always stop for one, and private tutoring runs to tens of pounds an hour. Most families cannot do that every week.

For many SEND learners the usual tools add barriers of their own: dense text, one fixed pace, little room to pause or repeat. General-purpose chatbots have not fixed that. They make a finished answer very easy to get. But being given an answer isn’t the same as learning how to reach it.

So Chalk is a SEND-first learning platform. SEND shapes how it speaks, what it puts on screen, how fast it goes and how it guides, rather than being a setting added to a general-purpose tutor. It is built to teach: explaining, asking, hinting and letting learners work things out.

It’s still early. Try a real lesson and help us decide what we build next.

The pilot

We’re still in pilot, so we don’t have testimonials yet.

We’d rather be open about that. Here is who we’re looking for instead.

  • Learners

Children working through GCSE topics, who can tell us which explanations actually landed.

  • Tutors

People who teach this every day and can say plainly where Chalk falls short of them.

  • SEND parent groups

Families who will hold us to the accessibility we claim, rather than take our word for it.

Taking part is free during the pilot, and what we learn from you decides what gets built next.

FAQ

Questions? Here are the answers.

What parents ask before a first lesson.

Got more questions?

Write to us and a person answers. No sales call, no pitch deck.

Is my child's data used to train AI?

Never. Lessons are stored so that you and your child can look back at them, and for nothing else at all. We do not sell data and we do not train models on it. You can export or delete everything at any time.

What exactly do you store?

The topic, what Chalk said, what your child answered, the sources used, and the time and date. No microphone recordings are kept. Speech is turned into text and the audio is discarded.

What happens if my child says something worrying?

The lesson stops immediately and cannot be restarted from that screen. Your child sees a calm page with the Childline number and a prompt to talk to a trusted adult, and the lesson is flagged in Past Lessons.

Does it work if my child can't or won't speak?

Yes. Every part of a lesson can be typed instead. Typing is always available beside the microphone.

Do you need my card for the pilot?

No. There is nothing to enter and nothing stored.
